Guided Mentorship Program

The NIH-funded QuanTS Guided Mentorship Program, developed by the University of Kentucky and Duke University, is a six-month, small-group training program designed to help early-career quantitative scientists strengthen the collaborative skills needed to thrive on interdisciplinary biomedical research teams. There is no cost to participate.

Intended Audience

Applicants should meet all of the following criteria:

  • Any type of quantitative scientist (e.g., biostatistician, informatician, data scientist, epidemiologist, or another professional whose primary role involves working with data on research teams).

  • Currently work as part of an interdisciplinary biomedical research team.

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

  • Early in a collaborative research career. There is no strict cutoff for eligibility, but the program is designed for quantitative scientists who are seeking foundational training and mentorship in collaborative skills.

Program Dates & Time Commitment

The QuanTS Guided Mentorship Program runs January–June 2027. Participants will meet virtually every other week for 11 one-hour sessions in one of the following cohorts:

Program Structure & Curriculum

The program combines interactive small-group workshops, self-paced online learning, and guided mentorship to help participants learn and apply collaborative skills in the context of their own research.

Throughout the six-month program, participants will:

Attend 11 virtual small-group workshops

led by experienced quantitative team scientists. These interactive sessions, held every other week, provide opportunities for discussion, personalized feedback and peer learning.

Complete one self-paced online training module 

between each workshop. Each module takes approximately 1–2 hours to complete and introduces practical strategies for working effectively on interdisciplinary research teams.

Meet with an institutional mentor

from their own workplace to discuss how the training content applies to their own collaborative research projects. Participants will identify their own institutional mentor.

Applications are due September 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern. Selected applicants will be notified in October 2026 and assigned to one of four cohorts based on their availability and program capacity.
